History of Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences
1946
The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences originated from the Faculty of Humanitarian Studies and Social Sciences, Bangsaen Educational College, Chonburi. It was Thailand’s first regional tertiary educational institution, under the Department of Teacher Training, the Ministry of Education. The Faculty offered Bachelor’s Degrees in education with a wide range of majors, including sociology, geography, history, Thai, English and art education.
1974
Bangsaen Educational Collage was upgraded to Srinakharinwirot University, Bangsaen Campus. The Faculty of Humanitarian Studies and Social Sciences was then divided into the Faculty of Humanities and the Faculty of Social Sciences, Srinakharinwirot University, Bangsaen Campus.
1990
Srinakharinwirot University, Bangsaen Campus, became a new university called Burapha University, and the two faculties merged into the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.
In its early days, the ‘Social Sciences Building’, from the time of Bangsaen Educational College, housed the offices for the Faculty’s Secretary, Board of Directors and all the social sciences departments.
Meanwhile, the humanities departments were located in the ‘Humanities Building’, which was the College’s first building used for academic lectures. It was built on 28th April, 1944. Today, it is listed as an archaeological building called ‘Conversation Building’ and belongs to the Faculty of Nursing.
1992
The University was granted a funding of 195 million baht for a new building to house the office for the Faculty’s Board of Directors and academic lectures. The construction was finished in September 1994, and the Board of Directors moved to the new building since.
1996
To commemorate the 60th Anniversary of Queen Sirikit, the University applied for the permission to use the Royal Name for the new building. It is therefore called ‘60th Anniversary Queen Sirikit Building 2’. On behalf of the Queen, Princess Sirinthorn, opened the building on 25 January 1996.
